late eve update

Old Moor this eve: four 2c-y Little Gulls. Text received earlier about four birds at Broomhill stated one adult, and I assume the other three were 2 c-y's, however, I will check with observer at a more civil time. So, for the time being, we know that at least five Little Gulls visited the area today. Also at Old Moor this evening, Black-tailed Godwit, 10 Avocets and 21 Teal, whilst a further 18 Teal were on Wombwell Ings at the same time, thus a minimum of 39 in area. This is a high count for the time of year and sadly suggests that the wet weather has washed out the nests.

  1. Yes, I noticed yesterday that Grey had 22 teal at Houghton which if they are different birds makes a count of 61. Also, there are always a few at Adwick. Surely not all these birds have been washed out in the Dearne Valley area?
It maybe worth keeping a close eye on the situation with teal because if many stick around to attempt to breed again then we are in for a bumper crop this year.
