A late start this morning, 10 am, as mentioned by everyone the weather a lot warmer than of late 6c rising to 11c this afternoon. Clear blue skies meant the weather was better but the birding hasn't really improved yet, still very few migrants and as last week only Chiffchaffs seen/heard. 96 Gadwall was a good count and Black Headed Gulls up to 810, looks like they are going to nest on 2 islands this year. Full list :- Grey Heron 2, Mute Swan 3, Canada Goose 24, Grey Lag Goose 12, Cormorant 1, Great Crested Grebe 6, Little Grebe 16, Mallard 12, Gadwall 96, Teal 2, Wigeon 12, Shoveler 3, Tufted Duck 43, Pochard 15, Coot 117, Moorhen 8, Oystercatcher 4, Lapwing 2, Redshank 1, Black headed Gull 810, LBB Gull 2, Common Gull 1, Sparrowhawk 1, Kestrel 1, Jay 2, Chiffchaff 5 (4 singing).
After Bolton went onto Old Moor, 6 Avocets on the Wader Scrape plus the usual Mediterranean Gull. The Bittern booming and the other adult Med Gull on the Mere. 6 Redshank dotted about as well as 6 Oystercatchers and 2 Snipe on the Main Marsh. A lot of the wildfowl have moved on, no Goldeneye on the Main Marsh, Shoveler down to 14 (Main Marsh/Field Pools) and I only saw 1 Goosander.
Its got to change soon, surely, but just been on Portland Website and still very few migrants there yet.
