Grey Heron at Bretton

Recently visited Bretton Lakes to do a first count of occupied Heron nests for the BTO Heron Census
and had only 32 nests with birds in attendance or sitting on eggs (no young calling). Compare this with last year on the 23rd March when there were 51 occupied nests and two nests with young 3-4 weeks old giving an estimated laying date of around the first week in February for these. Just shows how late they are this year.
Pleased to get my first summer visitor yesterday at Worsbrough - Osprey. I phoned Dave Waddington as it went over the reservoir then passed east over Wombwell Wood where he got on the bird and the rest is history as in WIM Man's blog.
