Oh Golly Gos ?!

First of all 4+ Hawfinch have been seen at Stainborough gardens today which were photographed by a visitor.

Highlights from the Worsbrough Valley over the last week; Water Rail 3, Mute Swan 1, Greylag 11, Cormorant 11, Wigeon 2 and 22 Waxwing on Park Rd on 4th.

Today around Worsbrough reservoir; Tufted 14, Little Grebe 2, GCGrebe 6, Teal 2, Buzzard 4 (including an extremely pale bird), LBB Gull 8 north, Chiffchaff 3, Redwing 3 west. Also had my first frog of the year just disappearing down the throat of a heron.

This morning as I was round the res, I picked up a large raptor soaring over Round Green. Initially thinking it was a buzzard, it suddenly became clear that it was an Accipiter. The wing beats were much too heavy for sparrowhawk but unfortunately the distance was too great. I did have a few Jackdaws fly in front of it which the raptor dwarfed! Almost certainly a female Goshawk, and I'd probably have 'clinched' it if I had my scope. Lesson for the future ???
