The Edge 12th July

Broomhill Flash mid AM- Birds present were 8 Little Grebe+7 juv, 2 Mute Swan, 6 Tufted Duck(+broods 8,6,6,5,4,3), 3 Mallard(+brood of 8), 2 Pochard+3 juv, 1 Gadwall(+brood of 6), 3 Kestrel and 1 Red Legged Partridge.

Bolton Ings late AM- Singing males were 6 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, 3 Whitethroat, and 1 Willow Warbler. On the open water were 5 Little Grebe+3 juv, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 7 Cormorant, 4 Mute Swan+4 cygnets, 47 Tufted Duck(+ broods 6,6,6,6,5,4,4,2), 5 Gadwall(+broods 8,8,2), 6 Pochard+3 young, and 3 Mallard +brood of 6( the 2 bright yellow ducklings still present).Also present were 2 Grey Heron, 12+ Canada Geese, 1 Greylag, 4 Oystercatcher, 3 Lapwing, 1 LBB Gull, 1 Common Gull and 1 Grey Wagtail.

Wombwell Ings early PM- On the R. Dearne were 3 Mallard+ brood of 6 and a Grey Wagtail. Singing males were 3 Reed Bunting, 1 Chiffchaff and 1 Sedge Warbler. Also present 1 Grey Heron, 2 Little Egret, 2 Mute Swan +2 cygnets,14 Greylag, 12 Gadwall, 10 Mallard, 26 Lapwing, 5 LRP, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Greenshank and 1 Kingfisher.
