Redpolls...... ;-)

  1. The larger image looks like the bright male that occurred a couple of weeks ago, I thought Mealy and Graham thought Lesser. I think Graham was right on that but it was a very unusual individual. The bird next to it looks like a male Mealy. On the smaller image the male Mealy stays where it was, others are probably Lesser Redpoll but worth having a longer look at the female on the right hand white feeder. This could be a Mealy - it has a broad white greater covert wing bar?
    What do other think (be brave lads!)

  2. As Geoff stated, the male Redpoll next to the bright male looks typical of a Mealy Redpoll. It has White braces which are just visible, paler upper parts and mantle and dark ear coverts. At this time of year, the male has broad White coverts with a Mealy type appearance, this is debatable.

  3. Sorry, it is the male Lesser Redpoll that has a Mealy type of appearance.
