Rabbit Ings
This photo was sent in by Ray Dye. Ray said the bird had a faint eye stripe. It spent 15 minutes with 2 Pied Wagtails at the edge of the main pond feeding in the algae at the edge. Could it be a Water Pipit still in winter plumage?
Although the face is a bit blurred, this looks like a Meadow Pipit to me. The bright pink legs rule out Water Pipit, the pattern of the underpart streaking rules out Tree Pipit and the leg colour also eliminates Rock Pipit.

ReplyDeleteOkay thanks Graham. The spot on the breast is more reminiscent of Meadow Pipit, but I just wanted to make sure we didn't overlook something.
