Langsett Reservoir Mountain Bike Trail and Footpaths

Just got wind of a proposed permissive footpath, plus mountain bike track, on the southern side of the reservoir. Can I ask every one with an interest in this site, no matter how keen, has a look and comments. I would be very surprised if the associated disturbance didn't impact on Nightjars and breeding waders, particularly the latter when the water levels are low, and roosting gulls. Comments need to be in by 31st of August.
Cheers

My internet was cut off last Thursday, coincidently after a scam phone call saying it would be! It turned out to be BT engineers in the green box.
A Dunlin at the weekend (Dave Smith), was our first, believe it not, since September 1998!
Andy Wood and Keith Bannister had a nice surprise this morning at the arrival of 11 Black-tailed Godwits on the wader scrape, a record number and the first to come down to feed since October 1995! They stayed until at 17.30hrs, but were gone on my return at 20.55hrs. Our last fly over was a single in July 2016.
Visiting birder, Ian Morris, saw them too along with a juv. Med Gull this morning.
Also present c150 BH Gulls, 5 Herring Gulls, 15 LBB Gulls and 3 Snipe.

Wintersett - 05.08.18 Details of DARVIC ringed Common Tern

Chris Swaine has traced the ringers of the Common Tern,  with Darvic U33 black on white right leg and metal on left leg at Anglers Country Park.  (The DARVIC was actually bleached out pale green)

Andy Smith, Watermead Country Park Leicester, gave him the following information

Yes it does look like one of ours. The colour rings are Lime green that can appear pale.
Lime U33 metal SR45297 was rung at Watermead Country Park, which is on the northern edge of the City of Leicester, on 23/6/2014.   Looks like it is starting to moult into winter plumage. This is a great record as we have had none of this bird since it was rung. Also you become the 20th person to send me records. This year I have had records from Merseyside, Dorset, Spurn, Lincolnshire, France and Namibia.
This year we colour rung 25 juvs. This brings our total to 135 since 2014.
Many thanks for taking the trouble to send me your sighting.

NEW SPECIES FOR  THE  AREA:
After Carl found the Small Red-eyed Damsel flies at 2 sites in Worborough yesterday,  we were inspired to go check Moorhouse Lane Ponds area, just in case!!  The weather was perfect for odonata so lunch was delayed and our quest was on.
Within a few minutes  of arriving at the ponds a SMALL RED-EYED DAMSELFLY was spotted by Pete Smith and Paul Meredith, flying very fast and low over the extensive weed bed. When it landed it  'disappeared', but was picked up again in flight, a few frustrating minutes later.  A second one was found shortly after that.  This is the first record of this species in the Wintersett Area. Steve Denny went this afternoon and photographed one at 14.10hrs.

Worsbrough - Small Red-eyed Damselflies 4th Aug

A total of 9+ Small Red-eyed Damselflies have been recorded at two sites today in Worsbrough. This is a new species for the area (and Barnsley?).

I had at least 3 male and a female at Dark Lane Pond, Barrow (SE 361035). This included a mating pair which was later seen ovipositing.

At least 5 males were then observed on the Worsbrough Canal. There are more suitable ponds to be checked in the area so numbers are likely to be much higher.

Plenty of other dragonfly species present at Dark Lane Pond. Other highlights were willow tit and grass snake.

Gary Lee has also had a Dark Green Fritillary at Langsett today.

Another Silver-washed Fritillary

A message from Chris Standring (Dave's son) - "Had a Silver-washed Fritillary in mum's garden (Blenheim Road, Barnsley) last Friday. That's a garden tick. Dad would have been very pleased to see that." And it was photographed by Chris's sister Julie.
So I guess this is the third modern Barnsley occurrence following those at Hugset Wood.  Clearly there are a few around and if they are in central Barnsley surely there are more in the wider countryside.
