High Hoyland

A Red Kite was seen flying south-west over High Hoyland at 1415 by James Horsfield (farmer).
On another note, there appears to be an upsurge of House Martins on the estate at Higham the past couple of days with birds now starting to build nests. Prior to this there were only 2-3 birds around. Its interesting that Martin Wells had a number of birds collecting mud at Wombwell Ings and fits with a possible trend that they are only just arriving in good numbers and now attempting to nest.
Any other observations that there has been a recent increase and now serious nest building?

Noted a steady arrival of birds in Penistone since late last week. Up to 30 birds collecting mud from building site on our estate last weekend and exploring new builds
