The Edge 4th September

Wombwell Ings  mid AM- Difficult to make out the water due to the large number of waterbirds. Blocking the view were 372 Canada Geese, 37 Greylag, 171 Teal, 17 Mallard, 3 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 1 Mute Swan, 199 Lapwing and 23 BH Gull. Wading amongst the multitude were 9 Dunlin, 4 Greenshank, 3 Ringed Plover and 1 Ruff. Also present were 2 Tufted Duck on the Dearne, 8 Yellow Wagtail sitting on straw bails in the back field, 3 Grey Wagtail on the bank outside the hide, 20+ Pied wagtail, 10+ Linnet and 1 Kestrel .

Broomhill Flash late AM- Present were 4 Cormorant, 1 juv Great Crested Grebe, 23 Little Grebe, 7 Little Egret, 3 Grey Heron, 2 Mute Swan, 39 Canada Geese, 96 Mallard, 30 Tufted Duck, 2 Shoveler, 1 Pochard, 3 Greenshank, 5 Snipe, 7 Grey Partridge and 3 Red Legged Partridge.

Bolton Ings early PM- Present were 8 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 22 Little Grebe, 4a+3juv Great Crested Grebe, 4a+6juv Mute Swan, 3 Canada Geese, 78 Gadwall, 45 Tufted Duck, 7 Mallard, 2 Pochard, 1 Shoveler, 1 Teal, 161 Lapwing, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Snipe, 1 Oystercatcher, 1 LBB Gull, 2 Bullfinch and 1 singing Willow Warbler.

In Addition to Alan's sightings, there were 4+ Greenshank, 4 Shovelor and around 150 Mallard first thing this morning. There was shooting in the back field till 20.30, sounded like the Alamo!
