Wintersett - 1st Autumn Osprey 08.09.13

Cold, 8 degrees at 08.00hrs rising to 16 degrees by midday. Sunny and warm when sheltered from the SW breeze.
Anglers CP: The bird of the day was brought to our attention, at 11.10hrs,  by Russ Smithson, who phoned from Thornhill in the Calder valley. He had an OSPREY that  was heading straight towards Haw Park. We made a quick dash to Botany Hill, which was the nearest high point, and picked it up circling north eastwards over Hare Park Wood at 11.25hrs. Thanks Russ!  Shortly after a  cream crown Marsh Harrier flew over just west of the CP and left west at 11.42 hrs.
3 Yellow-legged Gulls were present - an adult and  2 3rd Summer birds (one being the usual). Pochard 14,  Willow Warbler 1,  Grey Wagtail 1,  Sand Martin 2,  Shoveler 11 and Teal 1. Swallow 48 south and Sand Martin 11 south.  Hobby over at 15.04 hrs.
Wintersett Res: Little Grebe 5 + 1 CHRes. + 3 ACP.  Whitethroat 2 west bank.

Yes I agree, unforgivable then and still is. Roll on the curse.
