Carlton Marsh

This has been one of the quietest winters here for quite sometime. The spring like weather saw the first flowers of buttercup, Blackthorn and Bullace today. Another indication of how mild it was this afternoon was the emergence of a Pipistrelle Bat at 5pm shortly before dusk.
Birds included a Great Spotted Woodpecker 'drumming', 24 Yellow Buntings roosting, Bullfinch and Song Thrush singing. 70 Magpies came in to roost in a stand of large Hawthorns and 2 Water Rails (1 seen 1 called at dusk (Dave Smith/CG).
