Carlton Marsh

Yesterday Saturday 10/8/24
6 Cormorants south (Neil Lunn) and a Dog Mink on the embankment at 11.50hrs (CG).

A moth session with Melvyn White provided 21 species that included 2 Lesser Swallow Prominent, Pebble Hook Tip, Canary Shoulder Thorn, 2 Dusky Thorn, Old Lady, Sycamore, 2 Ruby Tiger, 2 Gold Spot, 4 Copper Underwing and a Small China Mark. Moths are an indicator of how healthy the local environment is. However, once again there was a distinct lack of common Noctuids. To highlight this we only caught 1 Large Yellow Underwing and 2 Common Rustics, they and Square Spot Rustic and the like should be abundant at this time of year!

                               Lesser Swallow Prominent (CG)

 Today Sunday 11/8/24

South Kirkby Industrial Park

A good count of 15 Common Blue, 3 Brown Argus, 2m Brimstone, 1 Small Copper, 25 Peacock, 42 Gatekeeper, 1 Pebble Hook Tip moth, 2 Migrant Hawker and 1 Southern Hawker (Chris Parkin)
