The Edge 18th December

Apparently, so far, December has been as warm as May but you know it is unseasonably warm when you can hear a Mistle Thrush singing in Broomhill Park, see catkins on the hazels and Wrens pairing off on the TPT, a tree in blossom on Old Moor and displaying Goldeneye on Bolton Ings. To quote Game of Thrones "Winter is coming",  but when?
Wombwell Ings -  Present were 4 Mute Swan, 166 Canada Geese, 2 Greylag, 2 Shelduck, 73 Wigeon, 19 Mallard, 17 Teal, 12 Shoveler. 10 Tufted Duck, 3 Goosander, 2 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 13 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 143 Lapwing, 65 Golden Plover, 1 Ruff, 1 Snipe, 1 Mistle Thrush, 41 BH Gull and 1 Common Gull.
TPT- 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Kingfisher(on Knoll Beck), a pair of Wren.
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 3 Mute Swan, 14 Tufted Duck, 14 Pochard, 8 Gadwall, 8 Mallard, 3m+4f Goldeneye, 3 Shoveler, 2 Goosander, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Little Grebe, 143 Coot, 21 BH Gull and 15 Common Gull. Also present were 16 Canada Geese,24 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, and 1 Sparrowhawk.
