Birds were on the move this morning with 10 Whooper Swans north at 10.09hrs, c50 Pink Feet west at 10.13hrs and 20 House Martins south at 11.55hrs. The Bittern was seen in the reed beds in the scrape from 10. 03hrs to 10.20hrs. Also present, 1 immature Common Gull, Little Egret, 6 Grey Partridge, 8 Teal, 6 Lapwing, Redpoll, Chiffchaff singing, 55 Gadwall, 18 Shoveler, Wigeon, 2 Tufted Duck, 20 Coot (1 pair mating), 3 Goldcrest, Treecreeper, 3 Buzzards up together, c50 Goldfinch and Peregrine south.
The Bittern was seen again this afternoon at 15.13hrs (Chris Parkin) and later flying around several times for 5 minutes before leaving north (without calling) as it got dark at 19.05hrs. As the light faded a possible second bird flew from the scrape south. (Dave Standish)
A Green Shield Bug, 2 Orange Ladybirds (Halyzia 16-guttata) and 248 Harlequin Ladybirds were counted in the car park. (Chris Parkin)
