Insects on show today were, 4 Red Admiral, 1 Comma, 13 Speckled Wood, 187 Meadow Brown, 24 Ringlet, 8 Small Heath, 12 Common Blue.
Also 2 Common Darter and Craneflies Nephrotoma flavescens, and Nephrotoma quadrifaria (Chris Parkin).
Looking back - The Shaw dike that runs through the nearby scrapyards and past the hide was grossly polluted with oil, wheels and tyres, but now thanks to restrictions imposed on the scrap dealers by the Environment Agency and Barnsley Council, the water course is significantly improved and supports fish and other forms wildlife.
