The Edge 27.01.16

Wombwell Ings - Just packing up to leave at 9.50am, when I heard a distinctive call. A scan of the of the near edge of the main pool revealed a Ringed Plover ( An early bird for the year but B.Emson had recorded one at Edderthorpe 10 minutes earlier on Twitter ). Also present were 2 Mute Swan, 231 Canada Geese, 3 Greylag, 125 Wigeon, 21 Teal, 13 Mallard,  5m+4f Goosander, 7 Shoveler, 4 Tufted Duck, 2m+1f Pochard, 3 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 11 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 214 Golden Plover, 126 Lapwing, 33 BH Gull, 1 Common Gull and 1 Kingfisher.
Bolton Ings -  On the open water were 7 Mute Swan, 24 Mallard, 23 Tufted Duck, 19 Shoveler, 9m+3f Pochard, 3m+5f Goldeneye, 7 Teal, 2 Gadwall, 1f Goosander, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Little Grebe, 125 Coot, 68 BH Gull, 29 Common Gull and 7 Herring Gull. Also noted were 23 Canada Geese, 1 Greylag, 2 Cormorant, 4 Moorhen,1 Lapwing, 1 Green Woodpecker and 1 Jay.
