The Edge 15.01.16

A good start to the day with two Little Egret , briefly in the dyke across from the Old Moor Tavern, before flying off towards Old Moor Rspb.
Wombwell Ings - 50% ice cover made the waterbird count straightforward but accurately assessing the numbers of Golden Plover and Lapwing was difficult due to these two species foraging widely over the Ings. Present were 2 Mute Swan, 64 Canada Geese, 1 Greylag, 32 Wigeon, 18 Mallard, 7 Teal, 2 Tufted Duck, 1m+1f Pochard, 2 Goosander, 1 Cormorant, 3 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 15 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 125+ Golden Plover, 117+ Lapwing, 1 Ruff, 1 Kestrel, 116 BH Gull, 2 Common Gull and a flock of 19 Pied Wagtail feeding directly in front of the hide.
Bolton Ings -
On the open water were 5 Mute Swan,14m+3f Pochard, 17 Tufted Duck, 11 Mallard, 10 Teal, 5 Gadwall, 3m+1f Goosander, 1m+2f Goldeneye, 3 Shoveler, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 135 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 35 BH Gull and 2 Common Gull. Also present were 4 Cormorant, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Jay, 1 Mistle Thrush and 1 Willow Tit.
