A total of four pairs have bred at or close to moorland/upland reservoirs this year and fledged a total of 10+ chicks.
With the exception of a pair that bred close to an upland reservoir, all young fledged relatively late in late July & early August.
The reason for this was no doubt the unsuitability of the reservoir sites until the falling water levels in mid May produced a 'shoreline'.
This total is double that of the previous best years of 1978, 1984 and 1992.
