Wombwell Ings - Present were 3 Mute Swan, 9 Canada Geese, 4 Greylag, 41 Mallard, 6 Gadwall, 1+2y Tufted Duck, 1 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 3 Moorhen, 1 Kestrel, 4 Lapwing, 2 Dunlin, 61 BH Gull, 1 Common Tern, 1 Pied Wagtail, 50+ Godfinch and 7 Linnet.
Broomhill Flash - Owzat? A hat trick of very good birds on Yorkshire Day. Arrived to find the Wood Sandpiper in the usual area on the north side of the flash. Shortly afterwards a Garganey appeared on the near edge. At 10.35 an Osprey caused a stir when it flew in from the west but it circled to gain height then gradually drifted north towards Edderthorpe. Also noted were 2+6y Mute Swan, 37 Canada Geese, 45+8y Gadwall, 21+6y Tufted Duck, 8 Mallard, 5 Pochard, 1+6y Shoveler, 16 Little Grebe, 2 Cormorant, 2 Little Egret, 2 Grey Heron, 128 Coot, 14 Moorhen, 1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1 Barn Owl, 100+ Lapwing, 1 Common Sandpiper and 1 Snipe.
Bolton Ings - Highlight was a Bittern that dropped into the reeds on the north shore of the east pool. On the open water were 2+5y Mute Swan, 18 Gadwall, 8 Tufted Duck, 5 Pochard, 2 Mallard, 9 Little Grebe, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 64 Coot and 1 Moorhen. Also present were 1 Kestrel, 1 Common Tern, 1 Grey Wagtail, c100 Goldfinch, c100 Sand Martin, 2 Blackcap and 1 Whitethroat.
