The Edge 09/01/2019

Wombwell Ings - Present were 178 Canada Geese, 43 Greylag, 1 Pink Footed Goose, 1 Shelduck, 165 Wigeon, 19 Teal, 13 Mallard, 11 Shoveler, 3 Gadwall, 2 Tufted Duck, 2 Cormorant, 6 Moorhen, 1 Coot, 122 Lapwing, 1 Golden Plover, 105 BH Gull, 2 Common Gull and 4 Fieldfare.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 2 Mute Swan, 28 Greylag, 15 Canada Geese, 41 Teal, 22 Wigeon, 16 Gadwall, 12 Tufted Duck, 6 Mallard, 5 Shoveler, 3 Pochard, 2 Cormorant, 9 Coot, 6 Red Legged Partridge, 193 BH Gull, 5 Herring Gull and 3 Common Gull. Highlight was 3 Foxes out in the open on the back edge of the flash. First a fine looking male ran across the back edge and disappeared into the soft rush only to reappear with a female. Whist these two foxes were mating another male appeared. The mating couple parted and ran off pursued by the second male.
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 2 Mute Swan, 8 Pochard, 4f+1m Goosander, 5 Tufted Duck, 2 Mallard, 2 Gadwall, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 7 Cormorant, 395 Coot, 3 Common Gull, 1 BH Gull, 1 Herring Gull and 1 LBB Gull. Also present were 3 Buzzard, 1 Marsh Harrier, 3 Snipe, 1 Green Sandpiper and 1 Kingfisher.
