The Edge

Broomhill Flash- The cream crowned Marsh Harrier timetable was a bit out today with the the first bird arriving 10 minutes late at 10am. It gave good views, for 15 minutes,  as it quartered over the back of Broomhill. Then it gradually gained height as it travelled east towards Bolton Ings. 5 minutes later a second Marsh Harrier appeared low down on the western edge  of the flash. Other birds present included 9 Tufted Duck, 4 Green Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpiper, 4 Little Grebe, 1 Black Necked Grebe, 5 Snipe, 3 Shoveler, 1 Teal, 1 LBB Gull and 10+ Sand Martins.

Bolton Ings- A cream crowned Marsh Harrier , harrassed by 3 Sparrowhawks, was over Bolton tip from 12 to 12.15pm. A Buzzard over Bolton Tip flew off  north at 12.35pm. Another Buzzard( this one lacking a few primaries) was seen over Bolton west end at 1.30pm. On the open water were 17 Tufted Duck + a brood of 3, 7 Pochard, 8 Cormorant, 4 Great Crested Grebe, 8 adult Little Grebe + 8 young, 4 adult Mute Swan +6 cygnets and 1 LBB Gull. Also present were 2 Kestrel, 1 Grey Heron and 1 Kingfisher.

Wombwell Ings mid afternoon- Birds present included 3 Little Egret, 1 Greenshank, 2 Mute Swan + 4 cygnets, 3 Grey Heron, 1 Teal and 1 female Wigeon.
