The Edge 4th June

Wombwell Ings mid AM- Highlight was the 2 Cuckoos, 1 male singing from the old Broomhill Tip and the other from Broomhill Park. Failed to pick up the male Goldeneye (J.Hewitt early AM) but I did manage to see 2 Cormorant, 4 Grey Heron, 1 Mute Swan, 4 Canada Geese, 2 Shelduck + 6y, 13 Mallard+4y, 8 Gadwall, 6 Tufted Duck, 2 Shoveler, 8 Lapwing, 3 Redshank, 3 Snipe, 1 Dunlin, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 50+ House Martin, 4 Skylark, 2 Linnet and 1 Song Thrush.
Broomhill Flash late AM- Noted were 1 Black Necked Grebe, 6 Little Grebe, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Mute Swan + 4 cygnets, 12 Canada Geese, 34 Tufted Duck, 3 Gadwall + 3y, 4 Pochard, 1 Redshank, 1 Red Legged Partridge, 1 Kestrel and 1 LBB Gull.
TPT late AM- Singing males 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap, 1 Willow Warbler and 1 Whitethroat. Also 1 Jay and 1 flyover Oystercatcher.
Bolton Ings late AM/early PM-   2 calling Cuckoos  made it a good day for birdhearing.On the open water were 2 Little Grebe, 4 Great Crested Grebe+1y, 2 Cormorant, 3 Mute Swan, 35 Tufted Duck, 31 Gadwall, 9 Mallard, 4 Pochard and 1 Shoveler. Also noted were 2 flyover Great Crested Grebe, 1 Grey Heron, 17 Canada Geese, 4 Greylag, 1 Kestrel, 1 LBB Gull, 100+ Swift, 40+ House Martin, 20+ Sand Martin, 2 Grey Wagtail,  4 recently fledged Whitethroat and 2 singing Sedge Warbler.
