Carlton Marsh

This morning provided Little Egret, 3 Kingfisher, 4 Goldcrest, 2 Treecreeper, 1 singing Chiffchaff, 10 Jay, Siskin, 30 Redwing, 56 Gadwall (a record count) and 75 Goldfinch. (Dave Smith/Chris Parkin)
This evening's session saw the Bittern out in full view at 18.18hrs for 5 minutes before it flew into the marsh. It returned to its favourite preening spot at 17.39hrs and spent its time posing and catching insects until 18.54hrs. At the same time Barn Owl was hunting as darkness fell. Earlier a pair of Coot were feeding a day old chick, I can't remember seeing one this late! c350 Black Headed Gull headed north to the Wintersett roost in the leaden sky. (Dave Standish/CG)
