Carlton Marsh

By 07.50hrs another Whooper Swan had joined the other one on the wader scrape and both were still present to at least mid-day (K. Bannister et al).

A male Cuckoo sang and the hepatic bird was also seen (Tony Harding). 9 Lapwings were on arable land nearby and hopefully nesting. A Painted Lady beat the earliest ever date by 20 days! (JP).

Kylie if you see this, yes you can put a purple rubbish bag at the entrance on the fence for the public to use.

Butterflies today included 5 Small Heath, 68 Dingy Skipper, 51m Orange-tip and 10m Brimstone (one ovipositing). 
Also 2 Mother Shipton and 5 Common Carpet moths, 10 Large Red Damsel, 2 Blue-tailed Damsel and a Grass Snake (C. Parkin).
