Last night albeit very wet produced the warmest December night I have recorded, the temperature didn't fall below 11.8c. With a high of 13.5c it was very mild during today. Birds seen today included 2 Buzzards soaring over the marsh, 2 Kingfishers, c100 Redwings, Goldcrest, Fieldfare, Cormorant, Willow Tit and 21 Jackdaws north. c350 Wood Pigeons came in to roost, Tawny Owl sang from his usual roost and Barn Owl was hunting from 16.37hrs.
I wonder if our Bittern is commuting. When it's not seen here I have noticed that one has been seen at Bolton Ings and when its here there haven't been any sightings reported on the blog at Bolton, or is it just coincidence?
