To Langsett & Back 22/12/16

Langsett - 22 Teal were on the reservoir, a female Stonechat was at North America and at least 3 Crossbill were feeding nearby. There was a flock of c.60(+) Redpoll (including 6 Mealy Redpoll) in the birches along Thickwoods Lane (SE section of the res). I only managed to get a good look at a third of the flock before they were flushed out of view by another walker. A better look at this flock may yield a decent count of 'Mealies'!.

Worsbrough - 6 Wigeon at Rockley (Rockley ponds have been more productive for wildfowl than the reservoir in recent years!). Two Dipper were along the river Dove (Worsbrough Dale), with one bird constantly singing. Great Crested Grebes have dropped unusually low to only 4 on the reservoir (24 present on the same date in Nov). A flock of 70 Jackdaw flew south and a Crossbill was heard calling heading west at 15:50. The Grey Wagtail roost contained 8 birds tonight. At least 7 Water Rail have been recorded in the Worsbrough area this winter with only 2 tonight.
