It's been a while, but since todays counts are probably the highest ever for Edderthorpe Flash, I thought they warranted a wider audience.
Edderthorpe is looking ideal at present with the water levels but for some reason migrant waders do not think so, we've been really struggling to get anything of note this autumn. However, ducks are finding it ideal as the following counts show;-
Canada Goose 787, Greylag Goose 361, Mallard 577, Gadwall 280, Shoveler 55 (very low for this time of year), Teal 124, Wigeon 27, Garganey 1 juvenile, Pintail 3, Cormorant 10, Little Egret 6, Lapwing 840, Golden Plover 3, Dunlin 1, Curlew Sandpiper 1 juvenile (new in today and first for a couple of years), Common Snipe 3.
There are a total of 3228 WeBS water birds using the Flash at present (not including any gulls), a quite amazing number.
