Carlton Marsh

This morning saw 59 Herring Gulls, Little Egret and 3 singing Chiffchaffs (R. Laverack/CG).

A good start was made on cutting back the Willow in the ringing Rides (C.M. Wildlife Group).

This evening the Bittern came in at 18.38hrs. It took flight from the southern end of the marsh (The Whin Pool) flying at 3ft over the water rising to tree height as it headed to roost in the scrape reed bed. It climbed the reeds when it settled in (D. Standish/R & P Thorpe/CG).
I stayed until 20.15hrs and it was still there.

As the car park gate was left open last night, can you make sure the last person closes the gate to stop undesirables getting in. Thank you.
