The Edge 18.02.16

Wombwell Ings - Got out of the car, opposite the Old Moor Tavern,  to hear Spring was in the air. Taking the lead were a singing Song Thrush and a drumming Greater Spotted Woodpecker. Things got better with a Water Rail showing well on the Bulling Dyke , a Yellowhammer near the entrance to the Ings and 6 displaying Skylark on the back field. Also present were 2 Mute Swan, 3 Canada Geese, 1 Shelduck, 118 Wigeon, 25 Teal, 10 Gadwall, 8 Pochard, 8 Mallard, 4 Goosander, 2 Shoveler, 3 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 9 Coot, 4 Moorhen, 167 Golden Plover, 34 Lapwing, 136 BH Gull, 3 Common Gull, 1 Kingfisher and 4 Reed Bunting.
TPT - 10+ Siskin in the alders.
 Bolton Ings - On the open water were 6 Mute Swan, 23 Tufted Duck, 12 Gadwall, 5 Shoveler, 1m+2f Goldeneye, 2m+1f Goosander, 3 Pochard, 6 Mallard, 2 Wigeon, 3 Little Grebe, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Cormorant, 121 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 33 BH Gull and 2 Common Gull. Also noted were 3 Canada Geese, 4 Greylag, 1 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk and 1 Green Woodpecker..
