This evening the only birds of note on the wader scrape were Little Egret, 7 Lapwings, Kingfisher, 2 Teal and about 15 each of Gadwall and Mallard. Elsewhere 11 Swifts at dusk joined large numbers of Swallows as they came into roost. The Swifts are still using at least 3 nest sites 3/4 mile to the east at Beech Avenue, Cudworth (per G. Miller. An estimated 600 Swallows roosted in Common Reed south of the ringing rides. A very vocal escaped Zebra Finch stopped me in my tracks near Bleachcroft Farm, as I walked the disused railway embankment.
