The Edge 03/02/2017

Wombwell Ings - Greeted with the sight and sound of eight displaying Skylark in the backfield. This herald of Spring was reaffirmed by the singing Mistle Thrush in Broomhill Park. Also present were 2 Mute Swan, 58 Canada Geese, 9 Shelduck, c200 Wigeon, 51 Teal, 18 Gadwall, 12 Mallard, 8 Shoveler, 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 11 Coot, 6 Moorhen, 1 Sparrowhawk, 41 Golden Plover, 35 Lapwing, 68 BH Gull, and 9 Reed Bunting.
Old Moor RSPB entrance layby - 1 Kingfisher and 7 Redpoll.
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 4 Mute Swan, 16 Shoveler, 15 Tufted Duck, 8 Mallard, 7 Gadwall, 7 Pochard, 7 Goldeneye, 3 Goosander, 2 Wigeon, 1 Cormorant, 215 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 46 BH Gull, 13 Common Gull and 1 Herring Gull. Also present were 2 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2+ Green Woodpecker, 1 singing Song Thrush and 2 Willow Tit.
