Carlton Marsh

On the wader scrape this morning Little Egret, 3 Grey Heron, Kingfisher, 3 Teal, 2 Dabchick and a drake Shoveler.
Also of note 2 +2 Willow Tits, 4 Chiffchaff singing and a day flying male Vapourer Moth.

This afternoon the buddlejas proved irresistible to 20 Painted Ladies, 10 Small Tortoiseshell, 38 Red Admiral and 3 Comma, but only 3 Peacock. Looks like they have largely gone into early hibernation!
Also present Small White, G.V. White, 19 Large White, 22 Speckled Wood, 3 Common Blue, 1 Small Copper, 3 Meadow Brown, 3 Gatekeeper, 1 Brown Argus and 71 White sp.

Carlton Pit site
145 Painted Ladies and 46 Red Admirals were all on Buddleja (Chris Parkin).

Chris also caught a nice moth in his Cudworth garden last night - Maiden's Blush. There has only been one previous Barnsley record as far as I know at Old Moor in 2011 (per J.D. Coldwell 'Insects of the Barnsley Area')
