Carlton Marsh

This afternoon's butterfly counts: Small Heath 2, Holly Blue 1, Small Copper 4, Speckled Wood 1, Dingy Skipper 9, Orange-tip 8, Peacock 13, Large White 12, White sp. 20. Also 1 Green Tiger Beetle. (Chris Parkin)

Tonight's birds included singing Water Rail, Cuckoo, Great Spot Woodpecker and 2 Red Legged Partridge. As dusk fell Tawny Owl called and 9 Pipistrelle and 2 Noctule Bats were airborne. An adult Hedgehog was found dead on the road earlier.

Vascular plants coming into flower are Ragged Robin, Spur Valerian and Ox-eye Daisy.
