BHG's....Everywhere

150+ Black-headed gulls over Birdwell. 

Not the most exciting post I know but the gulls were all circling and feeding in the air above my garden on what I can only assume was a large swarm of insects which they seemed to be following as they drifted slowly eastwards. I've never seen this behaviour (catching insects on the wing en masse) in gulls before. Does anyone know if it's common for them to do this?
