Spent the morning around the reserve perimeter looking for the Night Heron but not surprisingly no sign. Looking at all the suitable habitat I think it would take one very large slice of jam to locate it unless its seen in flight first. So where has it been for the last three weeks? Apparently, it was vociferous again last night and as the Willow Pool has been checked at dusk virtually every night one would assume that this is not where it normally hangs. Also, the Environment agency had been topping the perimeter banking's over the last couple of days so maybe they had disturbed it from its normal roost spot? Anyway, over to today's birds: The Willow Pool had actually been checked from 03.15 to 05.00 as one of our regulars just couldn't sleep (perhaps choking on his popcorn's or having nightmares about superman!) but the only things that left the roost were 3 Little Egrets and 5 Grey Herons. There were at least 14 Grey Herons on the reserve later as well as 2 Common Sand', Green Sand', Greenshank, Curlew (east), Redshank (adult), Barn Owl and 2 Kingfishers.
PS Reserve will be kept open specially until dark tonight - good luck!
