Moth Trapping was excellent last night with a Round-winged Muslin being a new species for Wintersett. This is a really good record for VC63. The only records in 2012 were from Thorne Moors, and these were the first to be recorded there since 1883! A Muslin Footman was also caught which was useful for identification comparison.
Also caught: Pinion-streaked Snout, 2 Dingy Footman, 3 Scarce Footman, Silky Wainscot, Clay Triple-lines, 2 Suspected and 3 Dingy Shears. There were also numerous Common Footman caught. The increase in Footman species numbers, whose caterpillars feed on the now thriving algae, lichens and mosses, is a good indication of cleaner air quality.
Very little to report birdwise.
Anglers CP: Oystercatcher 6, Teal 1, Yellow Wagtail 1.
Wintersett Res: Barn Owl 1.
