As reported yesterday, the River Dearne came over the floodbank and started to fill up the Flash, but fortunately this only lasted about a hour before the river level began falling. It still put about nine inches of unwanted water into the Flash though. Still could have been worse, at least some grass and the islands are still above water. And Houghton Washland has been filled up a bit and looks much fresher. Highlights this morning;- Shelduck 3, Gadwall 110, Shoveler 32, Teal 80, Goosander 1, Pochard 6, Great Crested Grebe 1, Little Grebe 6, Redshank 7, Snipe 6, Lapwing 4 birds still sitting on eggs.

Wigeon 18, Shoveler 4, Redshank 11, Ringed Plover 1.
Wintersett
Misty most of the morning, slowly clearing during the afternoon with a light easterly wind.
Considering the conditions it was a rather disappointing day;- Goldeneye 47, Wigeon 104, Golden Plover 100, Sand Martin 7 went north, Meadow Pipit 20 north. In Haw Park the morning ringing session yielded little, but 2 Crossbills, a Brambling and a Redwing were seen
