Carlton Marsh - Garganey - Successfully Bred

The drake Garganey was in its usual hiding place, as seen from the hide. Then the female appeared briefly with just 1 small young. She splash bathed as she approached the drake with her offspring, before jumping onto a goal post type perch.

Then she quickly returned to her hideaway in the Typha reed with the young one. The last time she was seen was the 4th of June. It would seem that  her other offspring have been predated.

It goes without saying that this is the first breeding record for this site since records began 51 years ago.

Also of interest Gadwall with 6 very small young (scrape), Kingfisher, Cetti's Warbler and Coal Tit.
