The Edge 8th July

Bolton Ings late AM/early PM- Surprisingly cool and misty until 1pm. Singing males included 5 Blackcap,4 Chiffchaff, 3 Whitethroat, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Sedge Warbler  and 1 Wren. On the open water were 4 Cormorant, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 3 Little Grebe, 1 Mute Swan, 18 Canada Geese, 12 Greylag, 39 Tufted Duck(+br 9,7,3), 12 Gadwall(+br 9,8) and 9 Pochard. Also present 1 Oystercatcher, 1 Kestrel, 1 Sparrowhawk, 50+ Swift and 1 juv Grey Wagtail.

Wombwell Ings mid PM-Present were 1 Little Egret, 2 Mute Swan+1 cygnet, 29 Gadwall, 8 Mallard, 1m+1f Wigeon, 2 Linnet, 1 Avocet, 1 LRP, 1 Ringed Plover and 18 Lapwing.

Broomhill Flash mid PM - Present were 7 Little Grebe+7 juv, 2 Mute Swan, 77 Canada Geese, 7 Gadwall (+br 7,5), 6 Tufted Duck (+br10,7), 1 Shoveler (+br 5), 1f  Pochard(+br 3)and 2 Kestrel. 1 Ruff was seen by C. Needham at 2.15pm. J Thompson had a Green Sandpiper  on Little Broomhill late AM.
