The Edge 5th March

Broomhill Flash mid AM- Present were 3 Little Grebe, 1 Cormorant, 1 juv Mute Swan, 34 Wigeon, 21+ Teal, 14 Tufted Duck, 6 Mallard, 4m+1f Pochard, 2 Gadwall, 1m+1f Goldeneye, c150 BH Gull, c30 Lapwing, 1 Redshank, 1 Snipe, 6 Red Legged Partridge and 1 Kestrel.
Bolton Ings late AM- For a change, walked on the ings from Broomhill village. Track still claggy from bridge on Old Pontefract Road down to Warbler Way.  The only singing birds were 5 Chaffinch, 3 Wren, 3 Robin, 2 Dunnock and 1 Song Thrush. On the open water were 7 Little Grebe, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 4a+4j Mute Swan, 13 Canada Geese, 2 Greylag, 23 Tufted Duck, 13 Mallard, 7 Pochard, 4m Shoveler, 2 Wigeon, 1m+1f Goosander, 1m+1f Goldeneye, 2 Teal, c280 BH Gull and 17 Common Gull. Also present were 1 Kestrel, c30 Lapwing, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Green Woodpecker and 1 Grey Wagtail.
Wombwell Ings early PM- Noted were 3 Grey Heron, 3j Mute Swan, 146 Canada Geese, 3 Greylag, 2 Shelduck, 185+ Wigeon, 17 Mallard, 16 Teal, 9 Gadwall, 8 Tufted Duck, 1m+2f Goosander, c150 BH Gull, 1 Common Gull, 14 Lapwing, 1 Kestrel, 2 Pied Wagtail, 1 Grey Wagtail and 15 Redwing.
