Night star?
The Night Heron was seen at Old Moor until 5.30 am before flying to roost. A new area record 18 Little Egrets left the roost around that time.
Other birds at Old Moor today included the Spoonbill, 14 Green Sandpiper, 5 Ruff and 4 Greenshank.
Wombwell Ings sightings included 18 Golden Plover, 4 Dunlin and 3 Greenshank.
The Night Heron eventually reappeared this evening at 8.15pm when it flew from the Willow Pool to the Wader Scrape and then to the River Dearne.
Special thanks are due to RSPB and volunteers for keeping the reserve open until dusk over the weekend. Please be aware that closing time returns to 8pm unless announced otherwise. And special thanks also to Keith Pickering for this stunning series of photos of a bird that has kept many people waiting a long time before finally giving itself up.
And finally up to six Two-barred Crossbills seen today at Broomhead including the adult male.
