The vismiggers at Harden, up above Winscar Reservoir hit the jackpot this morning with a Little Bunting flying past them calling.
It came in from the north calling at 07.28 hours, circled the three observers stationed there, constantly calling as it did so and then flew off to the south-west. Photographs (unfortunately not identifiable images) were obtained, but the views and calls left the fortunate observers in no doubt what they were seeing.
This is the first record of Little Bunting for the Barnsley area. One trapped a few years ago on the Broomhead Moor area just a few hundred metres outside the Barnsley area is the closest until today.
Harden is in a bit of a purple patch at present - a Hawfinch passed over there two days ago (15th).
