Carlton Marsh

BMBC Countryside Rangers, ably assisted by our Wildlife Group, cut down some larger stand trees to facilitate better views, but some stumps were left for potential Willow Tit nest sites.
This afternoon 3 Little Egrets were feeding on the wader scrape and 3 Buzzards were airborne. Also present Goldcrest, 12 Bullfinch, Dabchick and 6 Tufted Duck. A Small Tortoiseshell flying in a sun trap was our first this year and Coltsfoot is in flower. (Chris Parkin)
Later in the afternoon after spending an hour in the hide Dave Standish had a fantastic view of the Bittern at 17.16hrs, which took flight from under the Kingfisher pole in front of the hide about 10yards away.  1 Little Egret was still on the wader scrape at 17.30hrs.
