The Edge 24/03/2017

Wombwell Ings - Highlight was 7 Buzzard in the air at the same time, with 3 over Cat Hill and 4 over Darfield Church. Otherwise a return to normality  this morning with 61 Canada Geese, 28 Greylag, 194 Wigeon, 3 Shelduck, 10 Shoveler, 10 Gadwall, 8 Tufted Duck, 8+ Teal, 7 Goosander, 6+ Mallard, 6 Pochard, 1 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 7 Coot, 8 Lapwing, 5 Redshank, 2 Oystercatcher, 50 BH Gull, 1 Common Gull, 8+ Skylark, 1 Song Thrush, 3 Pied Wagtail, 1 Song Thrush and 1 singing Chiffchaff. K.Fisher also had 24 Snipe on the corner pond, 1 yaffling Green Woodpecker and 3 Linnet.
Warbler Way - First walk down  this year hoping to hear and see some fresh migrant warblers. Chiffchaffs were highly visible and vocal with 16 singing males. Also 3 Grey Heron over, 2 yaffling Green Woodpecker and 1 Kestrel.
 Bolton Ings - Quiet with wildfowl preferring the shelter of the phragmites, On the open water were 1 Mute Swan, 6 Canada Geese, 6 Greylag, 21 Tufted Duck, 7 Pochard, 6 Gadwall, 3 Mallard, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Little Grebe, 101 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 251 BH Gull and 1 Common Gull. Also 1 Willow Tit.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 2 Mute Swan, 22 Canada Geese, 46 Wigeon, 15+ Pochard, 15 Tufted Duck, 11 Gadwall, 10+ Teal, 8+ Mallard, 8 Shoveler, 5 Goldeneye, 10+ Little Grebe, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 2 Red Legged Partridge, 31 Coot, 5+ Moorhen, 1 Kestrel, 23+ Lapwing, 7 Snipe, 2 Oystercatcher, c300 BH Gull, 32 Herring Gull and 2 Common Gull. PWK also had c125 Pink Footed Geese over west at 7.40am and 5 Whooper Swan over west at 8.10am.
