Carlton Marsh

An early start produced a count of 16 singing Chiffchaffs along with Mistle and Song Thrush. 2 Lesser Redpolls were feeding on Scots pine seeds again and 11 Linnets were on the fields. Little Egret and 2 Redshanks were on the wader scrape and both Buzzards were riding the thermals. A Coot was on a nest and a Moorhen has 4 eggs. There were at least 2 Water Rails, 30 Canada Geese and, Barn Owl was hunting from 19.07hrs. (Jim Plant/Dave Standish/CG)

Today's butterflies included 5 Peacock, 9 Small Tort, 2 male Brimstone, 17 Comma and this year's first Green Veined White.

A Bee Fly was also active west of the nearby Midland Railway. (Chris Parkin)
