Wilthorpe Marsh

A great days birding this morning in the snow at Wilthorpe Marsh in Barnsley with Upland Tyke.
Upland Tyke looking for Jack Snipe.

Highlights this morning:  Jack Snipe 11 (ELEVEN) a site record, Common Snipe 26, Lapwing 60, Golden Plover 29, Heron 4, Fieldfare 20.  Also on the sewage farm; Green Sandpiper 1, Meadow Pipit 120+, Pied Wagtail 100, Grey Wagtail 2, Starling 150 and Reed Bunting 4.

The 11 Jack Snipe is the biggest count in the recording area since the 70s, I think.

Pete,at Carlton Marsh there were 13on 12/10/1977 (8 ringed by P.B Wordsworth & Derek Drew)

I flushed 28 on 19/10/1977. I dont think we will see those kind of numbers again.
