Wintersett 18.03.13

Clear weather to the south of here brought some migrants that were stopped in their tracks by the sleety, drizzly showers this morning.   7  Common Scoters  were in early doors.  5 males and 1 female on WRes.  and  a  male on Anglers CP.
Also on WRes. were 3 Greylag Geese and a male Shoveler.   The female Long-tailed Duck,  6 Goosander and 6 Redwing were at Anglers C.P.
A Pink-footed Goose was on Old Royston Flash this afternoon.
At last!  The vegetation clearing was finished today.   Hooray!
A beetle found on the Pol last week has been identified as  Agelastica  alni, which is given the national status of pRDB1 (provisionally Red Data Book 1) which is a rare species.   This is the first record for the Wintersett area.  The species was recorded in Barnsley in 2009 and at Walton NR on a single bush in 2011.    Thanks to Mike Denton for this information.
