Wintersett - Not so good Friday 29.0313

The unseasonal weather continues. This morning it was minus 3 degrees and there was ICE!     Anglers CP: 70% ice, Wintersett Res: 80% ice,  Cold Hiendley Res: 98% ice.    These water bodies have never had ice as late in the year as this, and weather forecasters are predicting below freezing night temperatures for the next two nights.
Anglers CP: A CHIFFCHAFF was calling at the north end of the lake.
Also here: Female Long-tailed Duck,  Shoveler 1 male, Snipe 10, Redwing 50, Green Woodpecker 1,  Lesser Black-backed Gull 2 adults, Water Rail 1  and  Pochard 52 + 1WRes.
Cold Hiendley Res: A Mute Swan was sitting on a nest.
Wintersett Res: Common Buzzard 7 + 2 ACP,  Little Grebe 3 and a Siskin flew over.
The first of the year Orange Underwing  moth  was also flying here.

Could the late emergence of insects, due to the extreme weather, be of benefit to breeding migrants this Spring. Hope so.
