Glorious weather this morning, clear blue skies, little wind and 7c, it didn't last tho, soon clouded over wind got up and only reached 11c this afternoon, time for gloves again. Quiet on the open water today with all counts down on last week, did see my first Buzzard of the year and first Blackcap's and Whitethroat's. On the down side there are no Lapwings or Redshanks this year yet but there are 2 pairs of Oystercatchers. After Bolton went onto Wombwell Ings where 11 Avocets had been seen earlier, I only saw 4 plus the following - Goosander 1, Shelduck 2, Redshank 6, Little Ringed Plover 5, Common Sandpiper 1, Little Egret 2, White Wagtail 6, Yellow Wagtail 2, Swift 1.
Next onto Broomhill Flash to see the Barnacle Goose, nothing much else but 2 Whimbrel were in the log. Also reported from Broomhill were Peregrine and Little Owl.
Finished off on Old Moor where there were 8 Avocets on the Wader Scrape along with a Knot and the Med Gull. The Bittern was booming and 3 Whimbrel, 2 Common Sandpipers and a Barn Owl had been seen earlier.
Finally 30+ Waxwings were seen on Cliff Road at 3.45.
